dzhokhar tsarnaev is on a ventilator and heavily sedated. he is communicating with authorities. an interview team goes into the room to question him every few hours. their questions have focused on public safety concerns, such as are there other bombs or weapons. he responds by nodding or shaking his head. they're waiting on when authorities could file charges against him. evidence suggests the tsarnaev brothers were planning another attack before the shootout with police left the other brother dead. there's a lot of information we're still trying to find out. nvg investigators are scrambling to find out a motive, why boston? the fbi may have missed warnings about one of the suspects. the older brother was on the fbi radar two years ago. there was a warning from russian authorities he might have some radical influences. i want to bring in tom fuentes, he is the former fbi director. how common is it for a foreign government to contact the united states and say, look, you need to question this person. he's going to be traveling to our country. >> the fbi receives many questions along

now let us know that this bombing suspect, dzhokhar tsarnaev is not -- i repeat, is not going to be treated as an enemy combatant. there have been a lot of questions about just what kind of prosecution this young man is going to be facing whether it would be in civilian justice or perhaps would he be one of those considered for prosecution in a military tribunal, perhaps even at guantanamo bay, but there you have it straight from the white house he will not be treated as an enemy combatant. the court and justice itself for boston and for the nation may well depend on exactly what those interactions are right now going on between dzhokhar tsarnaev and the high value detainee interrogation group. again, that's a very frightening sounding group, but the high value detainee interrogation group is comprised of a number of officials of the cia, the fbi and others. those very well may be the people who are at that hospital bedside periodically asking whatever questions they can get out of this suspect. i want to get into some of that right now with three of the smartest in the business. th

to is they are taking the claims that dzhokhar tsarnaev has made and taking a look at whether the two brothers may have learned their expertise online. one of the things they are looking at is an online publication called inspire. this is a publication essentially, online site, sponsored by al qaeda in the arabian peninsula essentially al qaeda in yemen. amongst the extremist jihady move. well known, in existence for many years. they published some time back a recipe for making a pressure cooker bomb in an article that they basically entitled "how to make a bomb in your mother's kitchen" the belief is there may be similarities between this online recipe and what was used in boston. investigators are looking at this very closely. chris? >> barbara, thank you very much. another piece in the puzzle. as people understand this information, and you hear it, it's important to tell everybody it's not about building this up or dramatizing, it's about understanding exactly how this could have happened and why. barbara, thank you very much. we'll be back to you. >>> not far from here in the bost
